FAQ’s

How do we organise our wedding from a distance?
A great many of our couples don’t actually visit the island until their arrival a few days prior to their wedding. Our website will provide you with comprehensive information, photos and portfolios’ so planning your wedding from a distance is a relatively simple process. Email is the main point of contact with Magnetic Island Weddings (MIW), at the request of the majority of our brides and grooms.

When is a good time of year to get married on Magnetic Island?
We recommend between March through to November. Our North Queensland summers have a higher chance of rain, but for smaller groups we have venues which have indoor reception areas available. For larger groups we have marquees available, our largest marquee being 400sq mts which can accommodate up to 250 seated guests.

Which coordinator should I speak to?
MIW coordinators and staff have extensive experience in organising these special occasions on your behalf. Approximately two (2) months prior to your wedding, you will be allocated to the coordinator who will be your contact up to and including your wedding day.

The non refundable administration fee covers the services of your coordinator and serves to secure your wedding date and time on Magnetic Island.  This fee also covers costs associated with the coordinator’s communication and labour in organising your wedding.  Additional coordinator’s fee will be charged for any additional duties you require from your coordinator, which is not covered by MIW’s initial fee.  This additional fee is rare and covers things such as delivery of presents to your guest’s rooms etc.  These services may not always be performed by your actual consultant and may be outsourced by MIW.
How should I contact MIW?

Most of our communication is done via email. This gives you and your partner the ability to ask questions and received answers in your own time, when it is most convenient for you both. We endeavour to answer emails as promptly as possible, however in some cases a little more time is required on some queries, allowing for suppliers to get back to us. Some follow-ups may take a week or longer to respond to, however our staff should keep you informed on the status of your enquiry.

Who will actually marry us?
We have sourced a small group of civil celebrants from the local area, which we use very regularly and have no hesitation in recommending their services to our clients. During the booking process your coordinator will check the availability for your requested wedding date and time.
Once booked, your marriage celebrant will be in direct contact with you to discuss your specific legal requirements and your choices in regards to ceremony content.

I’m not an Australian resident; can I still be married on Magnetic Island?
In most cases the answer is yes. Most foreign governments have agreements in place whereby your marriage in Australia will be recognised in your home country, however to be certain you should contact the Registry of Births Deaths and Marriages, or the equivalent, in your country of origin.

What are my legal requirements?
All couples who plan to be married legally in Australia are required by law to submit a Notice of Intended Marriage Form to your marriage celebrant at least one month prior to your wedding date.  This may be obtained from your marriage celebrant, a Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages office or download a copy click here
Other documents required are birth certificates, passports (if you are not an Australian citizen) and a divorce decree (if applicable).

Can you arrange pre and post wedding day functions?
Absolutely! The team can arrange a number of different functions on your behalf. The most popular requests are for a pre-wedding ‘welcome’ dinner, as most guests arrive the day prior so it a good chance to meet and greet before the big day, and a post-wedding ‘recovery’ brunch after the big night. These extra functions don’t have to incur additional costs onto the couple; we can make arrangements so your guests can pay directly to MIW.

Will our wedding guests want to travel for our wedding?
Every couple wants to have their family and friends with them on this special day, but many fear that a ceremony away from home will make attending difficult.  However, our experience has shown that everyone wants to come to a tropical island destination! By sending your invitations out with plenty of notice, your friends and family have ample time to make arrangements with work, book flights and accommodation to make the trip to your wedding and incorporate their annual holidays. You will be surprised at the response you will receive!
